Assistant Professor, Mathematics Department, SUNY Cortland

POSITION: Full-time tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor level beginning in Fall 2016.


RESPONSIBILITIES: Teach undergraduate and master's level courses in mathematics; Engage in research and other scholarly activities; Provide service to the department and college; Provide academic advisement and mentoring to undergraduate and graduate students. Candidates specializing in applied mathematics (broadly defined) are encouraged to apply.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Earned doctorate in mathematics expected by the time of appointment with specialization in applied mathematics (broadly defined); Previous experience teaching college level mathematics; Evidence of effectiveness in teaching; Strong oral and written communication skills.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Ability to also teach analysis, probability or statistics courses; Experience with educational technology; Experience directing student research projects; Experience collaborating with colleagues from other departments.

THE DEPARTMENT: The Mathematics Department has approximately 200 undergraduate majors in either adolescence education or liberal arts mathematics, and nearly 20 graduate students majoring in mathematics education.
