Founded in 1885 by the Congregation of Holy Cross, St. Edward's University is a private, Catholic liberal arts institution of 3700 undergraduate and 500 graduate students located in Austin, Texas. St. Edward's University is a Minority Serving Institution, serving a diverse community that welcomes faculty and students from all backgrounds, as engagement with various perspectives prepares our students to be involved and equipped for life in a global society. St. Edward's emphasizes critical thinking and ethical practices, as well as small classes, engaged learning, and exciting research opportunities. Since 2005 the School of Natural Sciences has brought more than 110,000 square feet of instructional and laboratory space online at its beautiful hilltop location just south of downtown Austin. St. Edward's also manages the Creative Research Center at Wild Basin, where faculty, staff, volunteers, and the public have direct access to a 227-acre natural preserve, a small piece of and gateway to the 30,000+ acre Balcones Canyonland Preserve. As part of the School of Natural Sciences, the Department of Mathematics is housed in the state-of-the-art John Brooks Williams Science Complex completed in 2013, and offers B.A. and B.S. degrees as well as a minor in mathematics, and pathways to 3+2 math/engineering dual degree through partnerships with several other universities.
