The Department of Mathematics at the University of Florida invites applications for one full-time, nine-month tenure-track faculty position at the level of Assistant or Associate Professor in Mathematics with a focus in AI Quantitative Medicine and Data Science to begin August 16, 2022. Appointment at the level of Associate Professor will be considered for exceptional candidates who already hold this rank at a peer institution and have demonstrated a sustained level of significant external funding.

This search is part of the University of Florida’s AI initiative that aims to expand the role of AI in higher education and research (https://ai.ufl.edu); we, therefore, welcome applicants whose research bridges the interface between AI, data science, computational medicine, and biomathematics. This includes, but is not limited to, mathematical biology, probability, and stochastic processes, dynamical systems, machine learning, image and signal processing, numerical analysis and optimization. The University is home to HiPerGator, one of the most powerful high-performance computers at a US public university (www.rc.ufl.edu/services/hipergator/). We particularly encourage applicants whose research program can enhance the collaboration between the Department of Mathematics and the Systems Medicine Laboratory (http://systemsmedicine.pulmonary.medicine.ufl.edu/) and utilize resources available at the University of Florida, specifically the new HiPerGator AI NVIDIA GPU SuperPod (https://news.ufl.edu/2020/07/nvidia-partnership/), while developing high impact research programs.

Candidates should already have a strong established research program that complements ongoing research in the Department of Mathematics, a compelling plan for future research, and the ability to supervise both graduate and undergraduate research projects. A Ph.D. degree in Mathematics or a closely related field is required. The salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience, and includes a full benefits package.

UF is ranked the 5th best public university in the United States by US News and World Report 2022, with exceptional research, teaching, and a university-wide commitment to diversity. The Department of Mathematics is committed to creating an environment that affirms diversity across a variety of dimensions, including ability, class, ethnicity/race, gender identity, and expression. We particularly welcome applicants who can contribute to such an environment through their scholarship, teaching, mentoring, and professional service. The university and greater Gainesville community enjoy a diversity of cultural events, restaurants, year-round outdoor recreational activities, and social opportunities.

Applications must be submitted online via mathjobs and at apply.interfolio.com/93925. All applications must include: (1) a cover letter, (2) a complete curriculum vitae including a list of publications, (3) a research statement summarizing the applicant’s qualifications, past research, and future research plans, (4) a statement of teaching experience and interest, and (5) at least three confidential letters of recommendation sent on their behalf to their Interfolio submission packet.

For full consideration, applications should be submitted by November 1, 2021, at which time the committee will begin reviewing applications. Applications received after this date may be considered at the discretion of the committee until the position is filled. Questions may be addressed to the Search Committee Chair, Professor Libin Rong (libinrong@ufl.edu).

All candidates for employment are subject to a pre-employment screening which includes a review of criminal records, reference checks, and verification of education.

The successful candidate will be required to provide an official transcript to the hiring department upon hire. A transcript will not be considered “official” if a designation of “Issued to Student” is visible. Degrees earned from an educational institution outside of the United States require evaluation by a professional credentialing service provider approved by the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (NACES), which can be found at http://www.naces.org/.

The University of Florida is an equal opportunity institution dedicated to building a broadly diverse and inclusive faculty and staff and strongly encourages applications from female and minority candidates.
