Summary:

The Department of Mathematics at Utah Valley University invites qualified individuals to apply for a tenure-track position as an assistant professor of statistics starting August 2021. Duties include teaching lower-and upper- division statistics courses as well as mathematics courses as needed by the department. The teaching load is 12 credit hours per semester. Applicants should have an engaging and effective teaching style and should also pursue scholarly activities. Candidates must have a doctoral degree in statistics or a related field by July 1, 2021. In addition to serving on committees in the department and the university, the candidate will serve other faculty and students at UVU by providing statistical consulting as needed. The successful candidate may be asked to help design new courses in data science, machine learning and related fields. The main campus of UVU is located in Orem, Utah at the foot of the beautiful Wasatch Mountains about 30 miles south of Salt Lake City. UVU is a rapidly growing institution which primarily emphasizes undergraduate education. The mathematics department also offers a graduate certificate and a master's degree in Mathematics Education. The Assistant Professor - Statistics in the Department of Mathematics of the College of Science will teach in a variety of learning environments and activities that provide opportunities for students to develop to their fullest potential and achieve their learning objectives; participate collaboratively and professionally with other faculty and staff to promote the general well- being of the department and college/school, and collective individual interest of its staff and student body; support and seek always to fulfill the guiding concepts of the university which are embodied in UVU's mission.

Required Qualifications:

• Graduation from an accredited institution with a terminal degree in a related academic field of study plus one year of teaching experience. Must have completed Ph.D. by July 1, 2021

• Experience assessing student learning capabilities and learning styles and understand how to develop curriculum of assigned courses.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

• Demonstrate knowledge of teaching through implementation of appropriate pedagogy, clear presentation and preparation.

• Interpersonal, problem-solving, and decision-making skills. Demonstrates the skills to evaluate student performance.

Ability to:

• Communicate verbally and in writing and publish and/or present scholarly research.

• Use online learning tools and mechanisms.

• Develop, coordinate, manage and foster teamwork among diverse education and training programs.

• Function effectively on a variety of committees and assignments that serve the needs of the University.

• Interact personally with students and other faculty members in a congenial and productive manner.

Preferred Qualifications:

Doctorate Degree in Statistics, Biostatistics, Data Science, or a related field is preferred.

Physical Requirements:

Work is performed in a normal office and classroom environment.
