Assistant Professor – Financial Mathematics The Department of Mathematics and Statistics, Faculty of Science, seeks outstanding candidates for a tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor level, to start on or after 1st July 2016. Qualifications include a Ph.D. in Mathematical Finance or a related area. We welcome applications from outstanding candidates who will able to work in the area of energy, commodity and environmental finance. The successful candidate will add to our existing strength in financial mathematics and join our Mathematical and Computational Laboratory, and will have the opportunity to develop collaborations with faculty in Electrical Engineering, Economics and the Finance group in the Haskayne School of Business.

Energy commodities and emissions play an important role in the global economy, and this role is recognized by the University of Calgary’s Strategic Research Theme on Energy Innovation for Today and Tomorrow. This position will expand our ability to build an Energy Science undergraduate program by bringing expertise in the mathematical modelling of energy markets and their associated risks. We are also looking for candidates with an interest in generating industry support and in the development of professional programming in Financial Mathematics.

Post-doctoral experience is an asset. Peer-reviewed external funding is normally expected to be sustained throughout the appointment, and industrial partnerships are strongly encouraged where appropriate. The position includes both teaching and research responsibilities, and an expectation to recruit and supervise graduate students. Successful applicants will be enthusiastic about contributing to both teaching and research. Applicants must provide evidence of excellence in research and teaching. Evidence for research excellence may comprise publications in top ranked and field-relevant academic journals, presentations at top conferences, research awards and accolades, and exceptional endorsements by referees of top international stature. Evidence for excellence in teaching may comprise positive teaching accomplishments and accolades, strong letters of reference and teaching evaluations, and a teaching dossier

This is an excellent opportunity to develop a vigorous and independent externally-funded research program within a dynamic and collaborative environment.
