Applications are invited for a Postdoctoral Research Fellow within the Department of Mathematics and Statistics at Dalhousie University in the broad research areas of mathematical analysis and partial differential equations, under the appointment of Professor Suresh Eswarathasan. While all applicants with a background in analysis and PDEs will be considered, candidates with expertise in any of the following topics will be given special attention: microlocal analysis, the spectral theory of bounded/unbounded operators, or the numerical analysis of PDEs. Applicants must hold a PhD degree in mathematics or a related field, and have an outstanding academic record.

The anticipated starting date is September 1, 2024. The initial appointment will be for one year, with potential renewal for a second year. There may be a possibility for teaching 1-2 undergraduate courses in the potential two-year span, based on the needs of the Department of Mathematics and Statistics. The successful candidate will thus be expected to engage with the faculty in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics. The base level salary is $42,500 CAD per year (which can increase to at least $52,000 CAD if teaching at least one course per year).

Review of applications will begin November 1, 2023 and will continue until the position is filled. Applicants must submit the following material via MathJobs: 1) cover letter; 2) curriculum vitae, 3) a short research statement detailing the applicant’s scientific interests, accomplishments and future research strategies, and 4) three confidential letters of recommendation. Furthermore, in order for an application to be completely processed, candidates must submit their CV and cover letter to Dalhousie University’s PeopleAdmin system at the following link: https://dal.peopleadmin.ca/postings/14637.

It is strongly suggested that applicants also submit additional materials to the Atlantic Association for Research in the Mathematical Sciences (AARMS) for the AARMS Postdoctoral Fellowship Award via its corresponding MathJobs page. Note that the AARMS Postdoctoral Fellowship Award application is only available in early October 2023 with its deadline being in mid-November 2023.
