Assistant Professor of Mathematics

The Marist College Department of Mathematics invites applications for a tenure track faculty position to begin fall 2016. Responsibilities include teaching at the undergraduate level, continuing scholarly activity, and institutional participation. Minimum qualifications include a Ph.D. in Applied Mathematics, Mathematics or Statistics, and the ability to teach the majority of undergraduate level mathematics courses.

The Department of Mathematics offers a traditional B.A. in Mathematics, a B.A. in Mathematics Education, and a B.S. in Applied Mathematics with concentrations in actuarial science, biology, chemistry, and computer science. In addition, beginning in fall 2016, we anticipate the introduction of a new major in Data Analytics that will be an interdisciplinary effort between the Departments of Computing Technology and Mathematics. At this time, the Department is particularly interested in applicants with expertise in applied mathematics or applied statistics. The successful applicant will join a department characterized by a strong sense of community in which students are the central focus and faculty are both accessible and approachable. Teaching responsibilities will include 9 & 12 contact hours per week in alternating semesters. Although prior teaching experience is desirable, superior teaching skills, enthusiasm in the classroom, and the ability to continually develop as a teacher are essential. While Marist recognizes teaching as the most important professional activity, scholarship and service are also required. The person hired will be expected to develop an active research program that leads to peer-reviewed publications and to collaborate with the department on curricular issues.

Situated on the banks of the Hudson, Marist College is a four-year liberal arts institution enrolling 4700 full time undergraduate students. Housed within the School of Computer Science and Mathematics, the Mathematics Department currently employs 9 full time mathematics faculty and serves approximately 100 majors.
