Job Description: Full time, tenure track position as Assistant Professor of Mathematics.

Closing Date: Review of applicants will begin on Monday, October 17th, 2016, but will continue to review and accept applications until the position is filled.

Qualifications: The successful candidate will have a PhD in pure or applied mathematics, statistics, or a closely related area. All areas of specialization will be considered. However, special consideration will be given to candidates with a background in statistics, applied mathematics, or data science. Excellence in teaching is essential. A teacher who is engaged and strongly committed to interactive, student-centered teaching of undergraduate mathematics in a liberal arts setting is sought.

Responsibilities: Responsibilities include teaching 24 semester hours per year, service, and professional development, broadly defined. The successful candidate will teach a variety of courses for majors and non-majors depending on their expertise. The appointee will be expected to demonstrate excellence in teaching and mentoring undergraduate and graduate students in a variety of formats including traditional, online, and blended classes. The successful candidate should engage students outside of class and support the curricular and extra-curricular activities of the department. This tenure-track position would start Fall 2017 or possibly Spring 2017.

Department: The Department of Computer and Mathematical Sciences includes Mathematics, Computer Science, and Computer Engineering and consists of fifteen full-time faculty members serving approximately 275 undergraduate majors and 220 graduate students. There are currently 50 undergraduate mathematics majors and about 100 graduate Data Science majors. The STEM departments at Lewis University are respected university-wide for leadership in teaching excellence, innovation, and undergraduate research.

Location: Lewis University is a four-year, private Roman Catholic and Lasallian university located in Romeoville, Illinois, United States, 35 miles southwest of Chicago. The current enrollment is approximately 6,800 students.
