Job Summary: 

The Faculty of Science’s mission is to develop critical thinking, scientific literacy, technological and quantitative proficiency, analytical abilities, communication skills, and a commitment to global responsibility among an increasingly diverse profile of lifelong learners from the Fraser Valley, Canada, and the world. We will do this through high levels of engagement among faculty and students, continued community outreach and excellence in teaching, research, and practical skills training in science. The Department of Mathematics and Statistics invites applications for an Assistant Professor, specializing in an area within Mathematics, to start August 1, 2024. 

The successful candidate will be expected to teach across a range of the undergraduate Mathematics courses offered by the department. As a teaching-oriented institution and department, we are seeking a collegial, energetic, and innovative individual who has successful teaching experience at the undergraduate level; will engage and communicate effectively with learners both in and out of the classroom; will join in the Indigenization of mathematics curriculum and delivery methods; can collaborate with others to develop new and innovative courses; and can integrate their research or scholarly activity into their teaching. Applicants will have a record of research productivity commensurate with their experience and demonstrated ability to establish a successful research program.  

We seek applicants with enthusiasm for teaching undergraduate mathematics and an ability to incorporate their research or scholarly activities into learning opportunities for students.  All else being equal, preference will be given to those with expertise in an area of Algebra or Discrete Math. The successful applicant will be expected to actively participate in departmental activities, service, events, and initiatives. 

A commitment to an ongoing program of professional development is required. 

Qualifications: 
  • The successful candidate will have a PhD in Mathematics, or solid indication of imminent completion.  
  • The successful candidate will also have experience in teaching undergraduate mathematics.  
  • Relevant post-doctoral experience is desirable.  
  • Preference will also be given to applicants with evidence of research or scholarly activity involving students.
