Job Description

The Department of Mathematics & Statistics in the College of Science at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi (TAMUCC) invites applications for five full-time, 9-month, tenure-track positions of Assistant Professor of Mathematics/Data Science/Statistics to begin fall 2024.

Two positions are specifically for the new data science graduate program; however, all candidates will be expected to contribute to our growing data science program. Candidates for data science must have demonstrated ability to contribute to our core courses and potentially expand elective offerings in data science.

For all positions, the department is especially interested in candidates with post-doctoral experience, outstanding publications, successful grant writing experience, overlapping interests with the current departmental strengths, commitment to collaborative/interdisciplinary efforts, and experience working with a student population from various backgrounds. The new faculty members will join a group of 22 mathematics, applied mathematics, statistics, data science and mathematics education current full-time faculty.

Successful candidates will maintain an active research agenda in their respective areas of expertise, as manifested by strong publications and potential for securing funding from state and federal agencies. The standard workload for full-time tenure-track faculty is teaching nine contact hours per semester and a three semester credit course release for research/scholarly activity. Additionally, the new faculty members are expected to have a solid commitment to mentoring minority and underrepresented students in both graduate and undergraduate programs, as well as support the Bachelor of Science and Master of Science programs in mathematics and data science. We expect the candidate to collaborate with the faculty in our department, other departments within the college, as well as other colleges across the university in applications of mathematics/statistics/data science to engineering, natural and environmental science, coastal and marine studies, business analytics, public health, etc. Other duties include service to the university, local, and professional communities.

The Department of Mathematics and Statistics strives to increase its research profile while maintaining excellence in teaching courses in the BS and MS programs in mathematics and MS in data science as well as service courses. The MS in Mathematics Program with its three tracks - Applied and Computational Mathematics, Statistics, and Mathematics Education - provides our students with preparation for careers in education, science, and industry and a solid foundation for further study in mathematics. Our Data Science MS program began in the Fall of 2023. The Department participates in interdisciplinary Ph.D. programs offered by the College of Science. Faculty actively supervising PhD students teach six contact hours per semester. Our department is active in various research areas across multiple mathematical concentrations, including modeling, differential equations, fluid dynamics, elasticity, electro and magneto-statics, porous media, microorganism swimming, fracture mechanics, analysis, statistics, mathematics education, and data science. We also serve our community by providing expertise to local schools, industry, and business.

Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi is an expanding, doctoral-granting institution committed to preparing graduates for lifelong learning and responsible citizenship in the global community. We are dedicated to teaching, research, creative activity, and service excellence. Our supportive, multicultural learning community provides undergraduate and graduate students a challenging educational experience through residential, distance learning, and international programs. The university’s federal designation as a Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI) provides a foundation for closing educational gaps. Its strategic location on the Gulf of Mexico and the cultural border with Latin America provides a basis for gaining national and international prominence.
