The Department of Mathematical, Physical, and Engineering Sciences seeks applications from qualified candidates for a full-time postdoctoral researcher appointment beginning in Fall 2021. Successful candidates should be passionate about research in the areas of mathematics or engineering. Candidates should also demonstrate the ability to publish research outcomes and writing grant proposals. Successful candidates will carry a 1/2 teaching workload for the fall and spring semesters. The mentors of the postdoctoral fellow will be Drs. Burak Aksoylu and Kun Gou. The research topic involves mathematical and numerical aspects of nonlocal formulations applied to peridynamics, fracture mechanics, soft tissue mechanics, and solid mechanics at large. A background in computational mathematics and/or computational mechanics is desired. The ability to program in C, C++, Python, Matlab, or Mathematica is a plus. The successful candidate will have the ability to publish research outcomes and write grant proposals. This is a one-year position and if the investigators’ external grant proposals are successful the position may be renewed, but renewal is not guaranteed. The first day of class this fall will be August 19, 2021. This is a grant funded position due to start Fall 2021. Grant funded positions are contingent upon available grant funding. Required Education and Experience: A Ph.D. at the time of appointment in Mathematics, Engineering, or a closely related field from a regionally accredited institution. Demonstrated specialization in mathematical modeling of computational solid mechanics. Research publication record in Computational Mathematics, Computational Mechanics, or Engineering.
