The Faculty of Mathematics of the Higher School of Economics in Moscow, Russia invites applications for full-time, tenure-track positions of Assistant Professor in Mathematics. Knowledge of Russian is an asset but not required as teaching may be conducted in English. All areas of Pure Mathematics will be considered.

About the Faculty of Mathematics

HSE University is the only Russian university to rank among the top 75 universities worldwide in the Shanghai Global Ranking of Academic Subjects in Mathematics and QS ranking.

The Faculty of Mathematics was opened in 2008. Since then, it has become a leading place in Russia for attracting researchers in Mathematics and mathematical students. The Faculty has Bachelors, Masters and Ph.D. programs in Mathematics and Mathematical Physics.

Among our faculty members are distinguished researchers, including 17 invited ICM speakers; we have the best concentration in Russia of highly motivated students majoring in mathematics.

Requirements

The general requirements for the tenure track positions are the following:

Candidates must hold a recent PhD in the field of mathematics received before starting work at HSE in a relevant field by an internationally recognized university and has been assessed by external reviewers as having the potential to pursue research that is publishable in leading peer-reviewed journals; Teaching experience at leading foreign universities is desirable; Knowledge of Russian is not required as research and teaching are both conducted in English. Therefore, fluent English is obligatory The successful candidate is expected to conduct high-quality research publishable in reputable peer-reviewed journals with research support provided by the University.

Conditions

Tenure track positions are only available on a full-time, residential basis.

Overall, appointments are usually made for an initial three-year period (starting September 2023) and, upon successful completion of an interim review, contracts are normally extended for a further three years until the tenure review.
