The Department of Operations Research (OR) at the Naval Postgraduate School (NPS) seeks applications for an open-rank, tenure-track position in Operations Research, focusing on Statistics and Data Science.

The Department has particular interest in candidates with expertise in applied statistics, machine learning, data mining, or experimental design and analysis. A successful candidate will be expected to teach and advise students in our masters-level curricula, and develop a scholarly research program. The Department of Operations Research at NPS in Monterey, California is one of the oldest and largest OR departments in the world. Our students are primarily military officers from the U.S. and its allies pursuing Master’s degrees in defense-oriented OR topics. We also have a small Ph.D. program. Our students are capable, mature, and hard working. The department has over 40 faculty members, with 23 tenure-track professors, who do research in wide range of fields including data science, statistics, optimization, stochastic modeling, and simulation. Our research addresses important and challenging problems in national security and we foster close collaborations with U.S. Navy and Department of Defense sponsors, as well as other universities. The review of applications will begin immediately, and applications will be accepted through December 31, 2022.

The application package should include a cover letter, statements of research and teaching interests, curriculum vitae, names of three references, evidence of or potential for teaching excellence, and a sample of published work. Interviews will begin in the fall term. Applicants are encouraged to apply early and no later than December 31, 2022 in order to receive full consideration.

Minimum qualifications:

• Have or be expecting a Ph.D. in a quantitative discipline.

• U.S. citizen or committed to obtaining citizenship when eligible.

• Evidence of teaching aptitude with potential to advise student theses and dissertations.

• Evidence of strong potential for scholarship leading to scholarly publications.

Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience. Relocation incentives may be authorized.
