Job Description Summary:
The Mathematics and Physics Department of the University of La Verne invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Mathematics beginning Fall 2023.

Overview of the DepartmentThe Mathematics and Physics Department currently has 5 full-time mathematics faculty members, and approximately 40 mathematics majors and 10 minors. The current faculty members research in areas of applied mathematics and mathematics education.

Specific Duties:
Faculty responsibilities include actively engaging in current teaching strategies through professional development, advising and mentoring majors and minors, maintaining an active program of scholarship, and participating in service to the university, and possibly to your professional community, as well as the local community.

Teaching: The successful candidate will teach math and/or statistics courses using culturally responsive pedagogy. The application should include evidence of creating and maintaining inclusive learning environments, and offering mentorship to students from multiple backgrounds. The teaching load is 12 units per semester, with the possibility of a reduced teaching load in the first year.

Scholarship: The Math Program values and recognizes multiple forms of scholarship, including research related to STEM education reform and diversity, equity, and inclusion in pedagogy.

Service: The university recognizes service to the institution, as well as service to the professional and local communities. A successful candidate must be prepared to collaborate with the department, college, and university on fostering an inclusive community for both their colleagues and their students.


Minimum Qualifications:
Applicants are expected to have completed a Ph.D. or comparable terminal degree in mathematics education, statistics, mathematics, or a related field by August 15, 2023.
