The Department of Mathematics at Wayne State University invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor, commencing in Fall 2023. The position is in foundational data science and machine learning, with focused areas in optimization, computation, and statistics. The Department is searching for scholars with an outstanding record in mathematical foundations and algorithm development for data science/machine learning, and strong potential in applications of data science/machine learning. Essential Functions: Teach courses in undergraduate and graduate data science/machine learning and mathematics. Conduct and publish original research. Interact with other members of the faculty who share research interests. Participate in service activities including departmental, college and university committees. Perform related duties as assigned. Qualifications: A PhD in Mathematics, Computer Science, Statistics or a field related to data science/machine learning and a strong interest in research and inclusive teaching are required.
