Located twenty minutes north of Baltimore, MD, Goucher College is reimagining liberal arts education through its commitment to social justice, study abroad, academic excellence, and global citizenship. Among the 40 Colleges that Change Lives, and ranked first in the nation for study abroad programs, we encourage innovation both inside and outside the classroom, and we offer a rich and rewarding experience both for students and for faculty and staff.

Goucher College invites applications for a tenure-track position to further develop its new Data Analytics graduation requirement and assist in launching a new interdisciplinary program in Data Science or Data Analytics. Candidates must have earned a Ph.D. by the start date of August 2018. The Center for Data, Mathematical, and Computational Sciences seeks a colleague who enjoys working in a diverse and international community of learners, and, especially, has a passion for pedagogical and curricular innovation within the liberal arts. Consequently, candidates must have significant experience in Data Science/Analytics or actively engage in research that utilizes and develops advanced data analysis techniques.

The ideal candidate will have a Ph.D. in Data Science, Statistics, Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, or other related fields which significantly emphasize data analysis techniques. Preference will be given to those candidates that propose a curriculum that crosses traditional disciplinary boundaries and values linking the classroom to the broader community in their application package. The teaching load is five courses per year. To support their work as excellent teachers and scholars, Goucher faculty may elect to apply for various internal curricular and research grants and to participate in professional development programs offered through our Center for the Advancement of Scholarship and Teaching.

Goucher College endeavors to be a model teaching and learning community, where faculty and students are engaged with one another in learning both inside and outside of the traditional classroom. We seek candidates who have a demonstrated commitment to students from diverse backgrounds and a dedication to engaged pedagogies that support equity and student success. We encourage candidates who are committed to student-centered teaching and learning who are also engaged scholars eager to contribute to the intellectual life of the college and the future of the liberal arts. Application materials should clearly articulate how the candidate will contribute to the college’s commitment to diversity and equity.
