San Francisco State University Department of Mathematics offers an exciting opportunity for a tenure-track Assistant or Associate Professor position in Applied Mathematics  beginning August 2019. We seek a colleague whose teaching and research interests include computational and numerical methods in all fields of applied mathematics such as applied harmonic analysis, computational biology, dynamical systems, partial differential equations, and optimization. We are especially interested in qualified candidates who can contribute, through their research, teaching, and service, to the diversity and excellence of the academic community.


The Department of Mathematics has 17 tenured and 6 tenure track faculty members dedicated to offering an outstanding environment for professional achievement and education. The applied mathematics program is one of majors in the Department with the biggest number of enrolled students and is continuing to expand. The Department’s student population is diverse where 42% of the majors are women and 38% from underrepresented ethnic/racial minorities.

Responsiblities : The position requires graduate and undergraduate teaching in  Mathematics and Applied Mathematics,  mentoring and advising graduate and undergraduate students, supervise student research in areas related to Applied Mathematics, developing an active ongoing and original research and  scholarship program  in the field of Applied Mathematics with an emphasis in computational and numerical methods, and ongoing committee and service assignments. ·      Ph.D. in Mathematics or Applied Mathematics. Terminal degree must be completed by the first day of employment.




·      For the Assistant Professor rank, strong evidence of professional achievement in Applied Mathematics, together with proven success in securing external funding or exceptional promise in doing so.

·      For the Associate Professor rank, established record of research leadership in Applied Mathematics, and a track record of continual success in securing external funding as PI.

·      Exemplary track record in teaching.

·      Active record of scholarship related to specialty area.

·      Evidence of inclusion of students in research and demonstrated ability to incorporate inclusion, diversity, and educational equity in teaching and scholarship.

·      Experience teaching and working closely with students from historically under-represented communities.

·      Record of contributing to collegial, supportive and collaborative work environments


Rank and salary: Assistant Professor or Associate Professor, both tenure track. Salary commensurate with qualifications and experience, accomplishment, and research leadership potential/record. The California State University (CSU) provides generous health, retirement and other benefits.
