The University is the state’s flagship research institution. UNM research injects millions of dollars into New Mexico’s economy, funds new advancements in healthcare, and augments teaching – giving students valuable hands-on training in state-of-the art laboratories. The Department of Mathematics and Statistics at the University of New Mexico offers programs that lead to a M.S. or Ph.D. degree with options in Pure Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, and Applied Statistics. The research interests of the department encompass core areas of analysis, computational mathematics, discrete mathematics, geometry and topology, mathematical biology, mathematical physics, nonlinear systems, and probability and statistics.
