Department of Probability and Mathematical Statistics of Charles University...calls for applications for a postdoctoral researcher position in mathematics/statistics within the project "GeMS: Advanced Geometric Methods in Statistics". The starting date is July 1, and is negotiable. The duration of the appointment is till the end of 2020 (~18 months). GeMS is a collaborative research project of Dept. of Probability and Mathematical Statistics, Dept. of Applied Mathematics, and Mathematical Institute of Charles University. The research is focused on the interface of multivariate nonparametric statistics, and the related advances in convex, integral, and discrete geometry. Successful candidates should have a strong background either in theoretical statistics and probability, or in general mathematics (geometry, measure theory and functional analysis). Knowledge of the topics of multivariate and nonparametric statistical inference, robust statistics, theory of convex bodies, integral geometry, or related fields will be considered an advantage. About the project: "GeMS: Advanced Geometric Methods in Statistics" is an interdisciplinary research project of Charles University. The research group includes three senior professors active in the fields of multivariate statistics and geometry, with several researchers at the postdoctoral level, and students. The main research interests cover the topics of robust and nonparametric multivariate statistics. A particular vein of study is focused on the statistical data depth, its theoretical properties, and the related concepts from general mathematics. |
