| Armstrong Atlantic State University invites applications for two tenure-track positions at the rank of assistant professor in the Department of Mathematics. The appointments will begin August, 2010, pending budgetary approval.
Teaching duties will cover a broad range of undergraduate courses. There is currently support during the summer for teaching and/or supervising undergraduate research.
Armstrong Atlantic State University is a four-year coeducational senior unit in the University System of Georgia and has an enrollment of more than 7000 students. It is located approximately twelve miles south of the historic district of the city of Savannah on a modern 268 acre campus. The core mission of the university is a strong liberal arts education for all students, and the strategic directions of the university are applied science and technology, teacher education, health professions, and community and economic development.
The Mathematics Department continues to thrive, exhibiting excellence in teaching with impressive performances of graduating seniors on the ETS MFT exit examination and on the Putnam competition. The department is active in scholarly work, publishing in highly regarded journals, and committed to university and community service, sponsoring both middle school and high school mathematics competitions yearly. The faculty is committed to excellence in undergraduate education and supports many student activities, including a weekly luncheon/colloquium series, a research seminar series, and student chapters of MAA and Pi Mu Epsilon. The current department numbers 18 full-time and 12 part-time faculty members.
The department offers a baccalaureate major in mathematics and teaches courses that support a Master's in Curriculum and Instruction through the College of Education for mathematics teachers. Options for the baccalaureate degree include applied mathematics, for which students are required to develop a concentration of courses in a scientific discipline such as chemistry, economics, actuarial science, or computer science, and mathematics education, for which students earn a B.S. in mathematics and certification to teach secondary mathematics. The department also participates in dual degree programs for engineering students in which students simultaneously receive a degree in mathematics and a degree in engineering at the end of their studies.
AASU is located in historic Savannah, Georgia, a coastal city located 250 miles southeast of Atlanta, Georgia and 150 miles north of Jacksonville, Florida. Savannah has long been known as a charming city; rich in beauty, cultural diversity, support for the arts, and opportunities for recreation. In the last decade the city has capitalized on its diverse manufacturing base, flourishing tourist industry, and thriving port to become the economic motor for the region. With a metropolitan area population of 285,000 and an adjacent six-county population of 471,000, Savannah is well positioned for future growth.
Minimum Qualifications: A Ph.D. in mathematics, statistics, or math education is required near the time of appointment, as well as a strong commitment to quality teaching and research at an undergraduate institution. Applicants in all areas of mathematics and statistics will be considered.

Preferred Qualifications: Prior teaching experience is preferred.
