Clinical Assistant Professor of Statistics

The Department of Mathematics at Boise State University invites applications for a full-time non-tenure track clinical assistant professor of statistics, starting August 2023. The successful candidate will teach statistics, and will coordinate multiple sections of introductory and service statistics courses. Teaching duties include undergraduate statistics at all levels, primarily calculus-based statistics and above, including Engineering Statistics (MATH 360) and Probability and Statistics I (MATH 361). The teaching expectation is four undergraduate courses (12 credits) per semester. Coordinating duties include Statistical Reasoning (MATH 153) and Statistical Methods (MATH 254). The coordinator will support instructors of those courses, including training new instructors. The successful candidate will establish and maintain accessible, inclusive, and equitable learning environments both for students and for supported instructors. There is no research expectation associated with this position.

Expectations of the position include:
  1. Teaching undergraduate statistics, primarily calculus-based statistics and above, 12 credits.
  2. Coordinating multi-section statistics service courses (Math 153 Statistical Reasoning, Math 254 Statistical Methods); supporting instructors of those courses, including training new instructors.
  3. Performing appropriate professional and institutional service.
Minimum qualifications: 
  1. Master’s degree or higher in statistics, mathematics, or a closely related field.
  2. Experience teaching college statistics.
  3. Experience using online tools such as an LMS (e.g., Canvas), homework tools (e.g., WebAssign), or others. 
Preferred qualifications:
  1. Ph.D. in statistics, mathematics, or a closely related field.
  2. Experience coordinating multi-section undergraduate-level university courses in statistics, mathematics, or related fields, with a preference for statistics.
  3. Experience teaching online, remote, or hybrid courses.
  4. Experience or strong interest in supporting student success through use of current technologies and pedagogical best practices.
  5. Experience or strong interest in supporting student success through, and establishing and maintaining, an accessible, inclusive, and equitable learning environment.
