Position duration: Two years, with the possibility of an extension an additional year based on performance availability of funding.

Position description

The Department of Physics at the University of California, Berkeley invites applications for a Postdoctoral Scholar position supervised by Professor Lin Lin, focusing on the intricacies of moire systems, such as magic angle twisted bilayer graphene (MATBG). The primary research areas include:

Interacting electrons of moire systems. Ab initio description and quantum embedding aspects of moire systems. Electron phonon coupling of moire systems.

The selected Postdoctoral Scholar will be expected to:

Develop, implement and refine methods pertinent to the research areas listed above and critically analyze their implications and outcomes. Numerical algorithms should be suitable for open-source distribution to the scientific community. Publish research findings in peer-reviewed journals or conferences. Disseminate research results to the broader scientific community in conferences and seminars. Visit collaboration sites such as Ecole des Ponts, Harvard, University of Minnesota, and University of Texas, Austin, enhancing the breadth of the research and forging deeper interdisciplinary connections. Participate actively in joint research activities, and collaboration workshops. Collaborate and integrate with group members. When applicable, mentor junior members of the group.

Qualifications Basic qualifications (required at time of application) Candidates must hold a Ph.D. or equivalent international degree or be in the process of obtaining a Ph.D. or equivalent international degree at the time of application.

Additional qualifications (required at time of start) Candidates must have obtained their Ph.D. or equivalent international degree by the start date of the job. Candidates should have no more than three years of previous postdoctoral experience by the start date.

Preferred qualifications A PhD in Theoretical Physics, Computational Physics, Applied Mathematics, or related area. Previous experience in the field of moire systems and quantum many body systems. Publication record in the area of moire systems and quantum many body systems.
