| The Mathematics Department of the City College of New York seeks a senior mathematician to lead a large urban undergraduate mathematics department three of whose past majors have gone on to win Nobel prizes. The department is pursuing two areas of growth: expanding a research effort with newly authorized hires to replace a large group of recent retirees, and pursuing technology-assisted instruction and other methods of addressing the needs of high school graduates with weak mathematical preparation.
The ideal candidate would be a person with a strong commitment to education and research in engineering and applied science and with experience leading a mathematics department in an institution with a diverse student body. He or she should have a research record consistent with appointment at the rank of Professor and experience teaching undergraduate and graduate level mathematics courses. The area of mathematical research expertise is open and includes all branches of pure and applied mathematics. Required is at least eight years post-PhD experience in a mathematical research environment. Salary: Commensurate with qualifications and experience The applicant should send a CV, a statement detailing research and interests, and a statement addressing the candidate’s vision for leadership of a mathematics department.
