The Department of Mathematics at
the California Institute of Technology invites applications for Sherman
Fairchild and Scott Russell Johnson Research Assistant Professorships in
Mathematics, beginning September 2018.
Research Assistant Professorships
in Mathematics will be offered to candidates within six years of having
received their PhD who show strong research promise, preferably in one of the
areas in which the Caltech Mathematics Faculty is currently active
Algebraic Geometry (MSC 14)/Number
Theory (MSC 11) Analysis (MSC 65)/Dynamics (MSC
37) Combinatorics (MSC 5) Finite and Algebraic Groups (MSC
20) Geometry (MSC 51)/Topology (MSC
54) Logic/Set Theory (MSC 3) Mathematical Physics (MSC 34/35)
Initial
appointments are for three years with a possible additional three-year terminal
extension. Appointees will be expected
to fulfill teaching duties (two one-quarter courses per academic year), pursue
their own research program, and
be in residence even when not teaching.
Summer can be used for one month vacation, research and other scholarly
activities. These positions
will be offered if funds are available. Applicants for the Research
Assistant Professorships will automatically
be considered for Noether, Taussky-Todd and Bateman Instructorships and NEED NOT REAPPLY. Caltech
