Postdoctoral Researcher Non-Smooth Geometry, Spectral Theory, and Data: Learning and Representing Projections of Complex Systems

The Courant Institute of Mathematical Sciences at New York University is seeking a postdoctoral researcher to work within a new collaborative initiative on "Non-Smooth Geometry, Spectral Theory, and Data: Learning and Representing Projections of Complex Systems'' funded by the National Science Foundation. The position will be supervised by Dimitris Giannakis, and will involve collaboration with Tyrus Berry (George Mason University) and John Harlim (Pennsylvania State University).

Qualifications The focus of the project is the development of mathematical and computational techniques for statistical modeling of dynamical systems, combining aspects of geometrical machine learning, operator theory, and data science. Applicants possessing a background in applied mathematics, with an emphasis on dynamical systems, statistics, and machine learning, are currently being sought for a position nominally starting in September 2020.

The postdoc positions come with no teaching requirement, although teaching is available as an option. The initial appointment will be for two years, with the possibility of an extension depending on performance and funding.

Application Instructions Please apply at http://apply.interfolio.com/71991 Applications submitted before January 15, 2019 will receive full consideration, but the search will remain open until the positions are filled.

Information about Giannakis’ current research, reprints, and preprints are available at https://cims.nyu.edu/~dimitris. Please contact him at dimitris@cims.nyu.edu for more details.

The position will be located in New York.
