| Applications are invited for a postdoctoral position in Probability and
related fields at Duke University. While applicants in all areas of
probability are welcome to apply, candidates interested in SPDEs, random
dynamical systems, stochastic analysis, statistical mechanics, mixing
rates of Markov chains and processes, multiscale random walks, random
graphs and connections to biology and genomics are particularly
encouraged to apply.
Duke has an active probability group with weekly seminars and reading groups that involve a number of faculty in Mathematics and Statistics, including Jonathan Mattingly, Mauro Maggioni, Sayan Mukherjee, and Jim Nolen. Richard Durrett will be joining the Duke faculty in the Fall of 2010. The postdoc will be primarily under the supervision of Professors Mattingly and Durrett. A successful applicant will also be part of an NSF sponsored "focused research group" in stochastic dynamics between University of Maryland, Duke, UC Irvine, and Stanford. andidates should have completed a doctorate as of August 1, 2010 and show definite promise in research and teaching. The teaching load will be two courses during one semester and one course during the other, so that the appointee will have additional time for research. Any appointments will begin on August 1, 2010. Duke University seeks to build a diverse faculty: women and under-represented minorities are encouraged to apply. Applicants are asked to submit (a) an AMS standard coversheet; (b) a vita; (c) a description of current and past research (1-3 pages); (d) and plan for future research; and have at least four letters of recommendation, including one which evaluates the applicant's teaching, uploaded to mathjobs.org by mid-January. Each applicant is also requested to provide the name(s) of one or more members of the faculty of the Department of Mathematics at Duke who are working in the applicant's general area of research. The AMS Standard Cover Sheet should be completed online at www.mathjobs.org/jobs/duke/. Applicants are encouraged to submit all of their materials electronically at this site. Applicants who do not have internet access may mail their materials to: Appointments Committee Department of Mathematics Box 90320 Duke University Durham, NC 27708-0320 Applications received by January 10th, 2010 will be guaranteed full consideration; early application is advisable.
