Associate Professor (tenured) or Assistant Professor (tenure track) in Modelling and Simulation of Complex Systems 

The Department of Engineering of the Faculty of Science, Technology and Medicine is seeking to hire an outstanding candidate in the area of Modelling and Simulation of Complex Systems, ideally within the context of large technical, socio-technical or cyber-physical systems. We seek candidates who are eager to engage as educators among a student community.

Your Role... 
The successful candidate is expected to actively contribute to the development of interdisciplinary research in the field of computational sciences, at the interface between engineering, applied mathematics, social sciences and computer science. Experience with one of the following domains of national interest in Luxembourg is desirable, or related to established technology transfer initiatives, e.g.: 
  •  Transport and mobility (activity-based models, autonomous and connected vehicles); 
  •  Sustainable adaptive operation of built infrastructural systems and networks (energy, water); 
  •  Smart cities and smart buildings; 
  •  Interfacing social networks and other social systems with adaptive engineering. 

Potential related methodological research approaches may embrace a wide range of topics, including but not limited to: 
  •  Theory and practice of uncertainty, volatility, and complexity modelling for large man-made systems; 
  •  Behavioral modelling at the interface of human and complex technical systems; 
  •  Stability, controllability and robustness of engineering systems and components; 
  •  Machine learning for computational engineering; 
  •  Multi-scale modelling, model order reduction, agent-based modelling or other advanced computational. 

 What we expect from you… 
  • PhD in Science (Mathematics, Physics), Engineering or Computer Science; 
  • Strong publication record and research impact; 
  • International experience; 
  • Successful acquisition and management of research grants; 
  • Proven teaching track record and experience with the supervision of students; 
  • Interdisciplinary profile with capability to interface/integrate with research axes in the natural sciences, engineering or social sciences. 

The University of Luxembourg is set in a multilingual context. The person hired on this position must be proficient in English and either French or German. The University encourages its staff to learn the other language and provides access to language courses to this end.
