Fellowship Description:

*** this fellowship has been closed, and no new applications will be accepted. ***

Applications are invited for a postdoctoral fellowship position in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics at McMaster University. This fellowship will provide an opportunity to engage in research in close collaboration with Dr. Protas and his group, with a limited amount of teaching, and it is particularly suitable for a talented mathematical scientist who has recently completed their Ph.D. The position will be initially tenable one year, but there is the possibility of an extension for a second year contingent upon satisfactory performance and the availability of funding. To learn more about the department, please visit our web page.

The fellowships are open to candidates of any nationality and selection will be based upon the candidate's research potential and fit with the research group (for more information, see http://www.math.mcmaster.ca/bprotas).

The focus of the position will be research on mathematical and computational modeling of nonequilibrium electrochemical and thermodynamic processes occurring in Li-ion batteries. This position is intended for an applied mathematician interested in exploring a rapidly developing application area, or for a mathematically-minded chemist with a solid background in theoretical and computational chemistry. In either case, knowledge of multiscale modelling (especially homogenization), electrochemistry, PDEs and scientific computing will be an asset. This research project will also involve close collaboration with chemists and material scientists as well as research scientists with our Industrial Partner.

The fellowship normally starts September 1, 2017 and provides an annual stipend salary of $42,000 plus a grant for research expenses. In order to receive full consideration, candidates are required to apply for this fellowship by using the MathJobs website by April 14, 2017. See our advertisement at www.mathjobs.org.

Applicants should provide at least three letters of recommendation. At least one of these letters should report on the candidate's teaching abilities. Preferably these letters will be submitted through the MathJobs website (see above); they may also be sent directly to:
