Position Description:    

Harvey Mudd College invites applications for the position of Visiting Assistant Professor, beginning Fall 2018. All areas of the mathematical sciences will be considered. Eligible candidates must hold an earned PhD before July 30, 2018. The successful candidate will have a strong and ongoing research program and demonstrated excellence in teaching. Harvey Mudd College is committed to broadening the participation of students in STEM fields, and experience with or demonstrated ability to teach and mentor underrepresented students is among the criteria for appointment. The visitor will teach five courses per academic year and have the opportunity to engage in the department’s undergraduate research activities, including summer research, senior thesis, and math-in-industry senior capstone projects. The annual salary will be determined as a function of experience. In addition, the visitor will receive health benefits and an annual $2,000 travel stipend. A second-year renewal may be available contingent on available funding and successful performance in the first year.

Harvey Mudd College is a highly selective liberal arts college of engineering, science, and mathematics. It is located in Claremont, CA, which is approximately 35 miles east of Los Angeles. About a fourth of our students were valedictorian or salutatorian in their high school classes, about half scored 800 on their SATs in math, and all students enter having already taken calculus. The College enrolls about 850 students and is a member of the Claremont Colleges, which is comprised of five undergraduate colleges, the Claremont Graduate University, and the Keck Graduate Institute of Applied Life Sciences.
