Position Description
Professor of Practice in
Actuarial Science at Purdue University
The College of Science at Purdue
University invites applications for a non-tenure track Professor of Practice
position at all levels (Assistant, Associate or Full Professor) in Actuarial
Science. The appointment may be full- or part-time, according to the needs of
the program. The Actuarial Science at Purdue was recently designated a Center
of Excellence by the Professional Society of Actuaries.
This position is part of a continuing
priority effort to further enhance and expand Purdue’s top-ranked Actuarial
Science program, with the intent to create a globally leading program that best
prepares strong undergraduate students for the profession. Part of a large-scale
hiring effort across key strategic areas in Purdue’s College of Science, this
position will be complemented by the recruitment of new tenure-track/tenured
faculty members to help advance the research mission of the program.
Qualifications
Applicants must hold at least a B.S.
in mathematics, statistics, or actuarial sciences and demonstrate a strong
commitment to teaching. Outstanding applicants in all areas of actuarial
sciences will be considered. Preference will be given to candidates who are Associate
or Fellow of either the Society of Actuaries or the Casualty Actuarial Society
and have a minimum of two years mentoring junior actuaries or teaching at the
college or university level.
Principal
Duties
Successful candidates will be
expected teach courses as part of the actuarial sciences program, meet with and
advise undergraduate students, establish and maintain strong relationships with
the profession, and participate in program, college, and broader university
activities.

The Actuarial Science program
offers a stimulating academic environment that connects a variety of research
programs and areas with the actuarial profession. With over 350 undergraduate
majors and a thriving partnership with Purdue’s Data Mine residential learning
community, the program is also tightly coupled with some of Purdue’s

Actuarial Science is part of the
College of Science, which comprises the mathematical, computational, physical,
and life sciences at Purdue.
It is the second-largest college at Purdue with over 350 faculty and more than
7,000 students. The College is pursuing significant new initiatives which
complement campus-wide plans, including data science as a strategic priority.

statistics, the physical and life sciences, and in particular both a newly
