Queens College’s Department of Mathematics invites applications for a full-time Lecturer position beginning in the Fall 2018 semester.

A Lecturer is expected to provide quality, inspiring instruction to students, develop innovative methods of instruction, serve on departmental and college committees, and advise students. A Lecturer must be committed to teaching a diverse body of students and is not expected to carry out research in mathematics. This position requires 27 semester-hours of classroom teaching per year, with no released time for research or administrative activities. Reappointment for a sixth year earns a Certificate of Continuous Employment (CCE) from CUNY. Applicants must hold a bachelor’s degree, provide significant evidence of achievement and potential as a mathematics educator, and have a strong commitment to teaching a diverse student body. Preference will be given to those who have already earned a master’s degree in mathematics or statistics or who have made significant progress towards a doctoral degree in these subjects. In addition, the applicant must possess excellent communications skills and demonstrate outstanding teaching ability. The successful applicant will have at least two years of teaching experience, including full responsibility for courses at the level of calculus or above. Experience with innovative teaching methods and curriculum development is preferred. It is important to realize that this is a full-time teaching and curricular development position, not a research and teaching position, nor a postdoctoral position.

Applications consisting of a cover letter, an up-to-date curriculum vitae containing a complete itemized list of courses taught, a teaching philosophy statement, and a minimum of three letters of recommendation (at least two of which provide detailed information regarding the candidate’s teaching) must be received electronically at www.mathjobs.org by the closing date. In addition, all candidates MUST also apply through CUNYfirst (go to www.cunyfirst.cuny.edu and click "Employment", click "Search job postings", click "More options to search for CUNY jobs", search by Job Opening ID # 17236, click "Apply Now" and follow the instructions there). However, the applicant needs to supply only a curriculum vitae and a list of the names of references on CUNYfirst. Please Note: All applicants MUST apply through both CUNYfirst and mathjobs in order to be considered for this position.

We are committed to enhancing our diverse academic community by actively encouraging people with disabilities, minorities, veterans, and women to apply. We take pride in our pluralistic community and continue to seek excellence through diversity and inclusion. EO/AA Employer.
