Reed College invites applications for a visiting faculty position in statistics to start in Fall of the 2021-2022 academic year. The college is hiring a one-year visitor and potentially a two-year visitor too. The successful candidate will teach the equivalent of five semester courses per year, supervise senior theses, and participate in pedagogical and curricular discussions related to our growing statistics and data science program.

Ideally applicants should have a Ph.D. in statistics or biostatistics and be committed to excellence in teaching statistics. Candidates with degrees in fields outside of statistics will be considered if they have sufficient training in statistics and have data analysis experience. Proficiency with the statistical software package R is required. We welcome applications from individuals who may have had nontraditional career paths or who have achieved excellence in statistical careers outside of academia.

Applications should include:
  • A CV.
  • A cover letter that addresses (at a minimum):
    • The candidate’s training in statistics if they do not have a Ph.D. in statistics or biostatistics.
    • The candidate’s prior experience with the statistical software program, R.

    • The candidate’s research interests within statistics and data science.

  • Three letters of recommendation, at least one should address teaching.
