Job Title: Assistant Professor of Mathematics 

Classification: Full-time, benefits eligible, tenure-track faculty position 

Reports To: STEM Division Head Job 

Summary/Objective: 
Sweet Briar College invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Mathematics faculty position beginning in August 2024. The successful candidate will be an engaged scholar-teacher and have a strong commitment to undergraduate education. They will be expected to teach both the foundational and advanced undergraduate courses to support our mathematics major as well as our other STEM majors. Preference will be given to candidates with a background in applied mathematics or statistics. The College’s academic calendar, with immersive three-week terms bookending traditional 12-week terms, creates an opportunity for innovative courses to take advantage of close student faculty interactions and collaboration across disciplines. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to make contributions to our women’s leadership core curriculum and engage in research with undergraduates. This is one of two tenure-track mathematics positions posted by Sweet Briar College to begin in August 2024.

Required Qualifications: 
  • Ph.D. in a mathematical discipline, applied math, or statistics before the start of the appointment; 
  • Demonstrated excellence in teaching; 
  • Demonstrated interest in working across disciplines and engaging in collaborative scholarship, teaching, and service; and 
  • Excellent communication skills.
