The Department of Mathematics and Statistics at Smith College invites applications for a full-time, benefits-eligible position at the rank of Lecturer, to begin Fall 2016. This is a continuing, non-tenure track position: the initial term of appointment is three years, with the possibility of ongoing renewal. An advanced degree in mathematics or a related field is required by time of appointment. The successful applicant will be a full member of the department with support for research and conference travel. The normal teaching load is five courses per year.

We seek someone with experience and strong interest in teaching, managing, and coordinating our pre-calculus and calculus courses. Evidence of teaching excellence, including a record of engagement with calculus curricula, methods, and issues, is essential. In addition to coordinating and teaching gateway courses, responsibilities include acting as a liaison to the college's quantitative skills center, supervising the department’s student assistants, and nurturing mathematics majors interested in education.

The Department is the home of the NSF-funded Center for Women in Mathematics. In addition to courses in theoretical and applied mathematics, we offer a statistics track through the major, we co-host a concentration in biomathematics, and, with our award-winning post-baccalaureate program, we send a cohort of students to graduate school each year.
