A PhD in Statistics, Biostatistics, or closely related field by the time of appointment is highly desirable. Candidates must have a demonstrated interest in and dedication to undergraduate teaching. The Statistics Program at St. Olaf College is strong and vibrant. It is housed in the nationally-recognized Department of Mathematics, Statistics, and Computer Science, which boasts four tenured statisticians among its 23 faculty members. Approximately 50 students graduate with statistics concentrations each year; students completing the four-course concentration in statistics come from majors as varied as mathematics, biology, chemistry, psychology, political science, and economics. Many go on to graduate school in statistics or related fields. Many statistics concentrators (18-24 per year) are selected to participate in the Center for Interdisciplinary Research (CIR) where statistics students on research teams work with faculty from statistics and another discipline to address in-depth, year-long projects. In addition to getting first-hand experience in research, CIR Fellows participate in a weekly seminar series focusing on research and communication skills, while forming an energetic and visible statistics community. Opportunities abound for collaborative research, especially involving undergraduates..
