Assistant Professor, Computational Mathematics for Data Science/Machine Learning

The Department of Mathematics and Statistics at the University at Albany, State University of New York, invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in the area of computational mathematics for Data Science/Machine Learning, to start in Fall 2023.

The department has great strength in all major areas of mathematics. It is also unique in that it has an established MS program in data science with enrollment of 90 students and is granting doctoral degrees in the area of data science. The faculty are supported by multiple grants from federal agencies such as NSF and NASA and have established collaborations with research centers and departments in the Capital Region. We are looking for candidates who will significantly contribute to the department's research, closely collaborate with existing members of the department, and enhance our undergraduate and graduate programs in the area of data science. In particular, the successful candidate is expected to have potential for collaboration with both of our Topological Data Analysis and Machine Learning groups and complement their expertise.

Candidates are required to have a PhD or an equivalent doctoral degree in Mathematics or Applied Mathematics from a university accredited by the U.S. Department of Education or an internationally recognized accrediting organization. Postdoctoral experience and a successful record of external funding are highly desirable.

Candidates are requested to submit: a cover letter, a curriculum vitae, statements on research and teaching, as well as three {3) letters of recommendation from experts in the field. An additional 4th letter of recommendation focused exclusively on teaching experience is desirable. The applicants are also requested to submit a statement addressing their ability to work with and instruct a culturally diverse population, as well as a statement addressing their willingness to teach remotely or online.
