Applications are invited for the following position, effective August 16, 2023. Final authorization of the position is subject to the availability of funding.

Research Assistant Professor in the Foundations of Data Science. This is a non-tenure track position, normally renewable annually to a maximum of two years. This position has been established as part of interdisciplinary activities under a collaborative grant to Chicago-area institutions, which form The Institute for Data, Econometrics, Algorithms, and Learning (IDEAL): http://ideal-institute.org/.

UIC faculty members involved with the institute span 3 departments:

- Mathematics, Statistics, and Computer Science, https://mscs.uic.edu/

- Computer Science, https://cs.uic.edu/

- Electrical and Computer Engineering, https://ece.uic.edu/

While the position will be hosted in the Department of Mathematics, Statistics, and Computer Science, the incumbent may be mentored by faculty in any of the three departments and co-mentored by faculty at other IDEAL-affiliated universities.

This position carries a teaching responsibility of up to one course per year and the expectation that the incumbent interacts with researchers across the three departments and across IDEAL-affiliated departments and universities in the Chicago area. Applicants must show evidence of outstanding research in the foundations of data science within mathematics, theoretical computer science, probability, statistics, information theory, electrical engineering, or a related field. Applicants should expect to have a Ph.D. or equivalent degree by the start date.
