The Department of Mathematics and Statistics at UNC Charlotte has 40 primary faculty members, more than 250 undergraduate and 70 graduate students. The Department offers a doctoral program with concentrations in applied mathematics and statistics. The department also offers two master’s programs in mathematics and mathematical finance and offers a variety of undergraduate concentrations leading to the Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science degrees in mathematics. As the largest and most diverse college at UNC Charlotte, the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences houses 21 departments in the humanities, social and behavioral sciences, natural sciences and mathematics, and military sciences, as well as 28 applied research centers and interdisciplinary programs. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Applications are invited for a tenure-track position at the assistant professor level in mathematics or statistics at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte starting August, 2023. Required qualifications include a Ph.D. degree or equivalent in mathematics, applied mathematics, or statistics or other relevant areas of mathematics; a strong research interest in mathematical finance broadly construed; a commitment to establishing a productive research program; and a commitment to excellence in teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels and to building a culturally diverse work, research, and teaching environment. Minimum Experience/Education UNC Charlotte gives primary consideration to the earned doctorate or terminal degree in the teaching discipline or a related discipline.

Preferred Education, Skills and Experience: This position is part of the department’s effort to support the math finance program at UNC Charlotte. Therefore, preference will be given to applicants with expertise and experience in stochastic analysis, applied and computational methods such as Monte Carlo, theory of risk, probability theory, machine learning, high-frequency trading, statistical finance, including other areas of mathematics and statistics that overlap with recent trends in mathematical finance broadly speaking; a strong commitment to interdisciplinary research and commensurate experience; and potential for external funding.
