Assistant/Associate Professor, Statistics

The Mathematics and Statistics Department at the University of Nevada, Reno invites applications for four (4) full-time, tenure-track faculty positions with an anticipated start date of July, 1 2018. There is a potential for selected candidates to be hired at either the Assistant or Associate Professor level. The level is to be determined by the department and will be comparable to their experience, knowledge, skills and abilities. Salary, start-up, and benefit packages are highly competitive. Applicants must have a PhD degree in statistics, biostatistics, or a related area by the time of appointment. Successful candidates will demonstrate a strong potential for excellence in research and teaching at both the graduate and undergraduate levels. Duties of this appointment include research, undergraduate, graduate teaching, and service to the Department. The positions are intended to support the new PhD program and to contribute to the teaching of core courses in the department’s mathematics and statistics curriculum. All areas of statistics are considered.

The Department has ~25 graduate students and more than 100 majors, and it is home to a dynamic group of over 20 graduate faculty with diverse interests and expertise in Pure and Applied Mathematics, Probability and Statistics. UNR and the Reno community provide ample opportunities for interdisciplinary research collaborations, consulting, and internships with organizations, such as the Desert Research Institute, Nevada Advanced Autonomous Systems Innovation Center, the Nevada Center for Applied Research, the InNEVation Center (powered by Switch), Apple’s and Switch’s Data Centers, and the recently established Tesla Gigafactory.

The University of Nevada, Reno has a growing and increasingly diverse student enrollment of approximately 21,000 including over 2,700 graduate students.
