The University of Southern Mississippi invites applications for a full-time, nine-month, tenure-track faculty position of Assistant Professor of Mathematics in the School of Mathematics and Natural Sciences in the College of Arts and Sciences to begin in August 2022. The successful candidate is expected to be committed to high quality undergraduate and graduate teaching and to develop a research program that engages with the doctoral program in Computational Science with emphasis on mathematics. Applications are encouraged from candidates in traditional areas of Computational Science/Applied Mathematics as well as candidates with expertise in Data Science.

A Doctorate in Mathematics or a related field with at least 18 graduate credit hours in Mathematics is required by the start of the appointment. The successful candidate must be able to engage in effective teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels. In accordance with the Mississippi IHL Board Directive and Executive Order 14042, Ensuring Adequate COVID Safety Protocols for Federal Contractors, The University of Southern Mississippi requires all employees to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 or to have an approved legal exemption and/or accommodation on file with Human Resources prior to their anticipated start date.

Responsibilities include teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in mathematics, curriculum development, and service to the School and University commensurate with expectations of all faculty. The expected teaching load is 6-9 student credit hours per semester. Experience teaching introductory mathematics or mathematics education courses at the college level, experience teaching online courses, experience mentoring mathematics research students and experience with recruitment will be considered positively.
