Assistant Teaching Professor

University of Victoria – Department of Mathematics and Statistics

 

The Department of Mathematics and Statistics at the University of Victoria invites applications for an Assistant Teaching Professor position, with eligibility for Continuing Status, to commence August 1, 2022, or as soon as possible after that date. The Faculty and Librarian Collective Agreement has provisions for the eventual promotion of Teaching Stream faculty members into a tenured position.

Teaching Stream Faculty at the University of Victoria have a workload of 70% teaching, 20% service, and 10% scholarly activity. Teaching faculty in the department of mathematics and statistics teach a maximum of seven 1.5 unit courses per year and their teaching duties may consists of a combination of actual classroom teaching and coordination of multi-section 1st or 2nd year courses.  Teaching Stream Faculty in the Department assume leadership roles in areas such as curriculum development and innovations in the use of educational technology.

A Ph.D. in Mathematics, Statistics or equivalent is required.  Successful applicants will demonstrate a passion for teaching and will provide documented evidence of excellence in the delivery of mathematical sciences courses at the first- and second-year level as well as a potential to teach upper level courses in mathematics or statistics.  The successful candidate will be expected to teach a wide range of courses within the Department.  The successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to teach students from a variety of departments and backgrounds.  The successful candidate should demonstrate the potential to play a leadership role in mathematics and statistics education. The successful candidate will engage in scholarly activity in mathematics, statistics, mathematics education, or statistics education. Experience in teaching Mathematics for Elementary Education, Calculus, or Introductory Statistics, will be considered an asset.
