Tenure-Track Assistant Professor or Associate Professor with Tenure in Mathematics

The Vanderbilt Department of Mathematics invites applications for a position at the level of tenure-track Assistant Professor or Associate Professor with tenure. The start date is flexible, with a target of Fall 2022 or later. The position is affiliated with VandyGRAF, Vanderbilt University’s newly formed initiative for GRavity, wAves, and Fluids – a collaborative, interdisciplinary initiative. Vanderbilt University is prepared to generously support the position with competitive resources and conditions.

VandyGRAF is a research-focused enterprise that cuts across traditional discipline boundaries by providing mathematicians, physicists, astrophysicists, and data scientists with the resources and space to connect and collaborate on projects of outstanding scientific merit. VandyGRAF is developing into a vibrant entity featuring newly added tenure-track members, postdoctoral scholars, graduate students, and substantial resources to support initiative-affiliated activities, including dedicated space in a newly renovated building.

Applications are solicited from researchers working in all areas of mathematics connected with one or more of the following:

  • Geometric analysis related to gravity, waves, fluids, kinetic theory, or related areas
  • General relativity: mathematical or numerical
  • Fluid mechanics: mathematical or numerical
  • Mathematical physics

Required Qualifications: A PhD in mathematics or a closely related field. Tenure-track applicants are expected to have demonstrated potential for excellence in research, professional leadership, teaching, and mentoring. Applicants for an Associate Professor position are expected to have an established track record of excellence in research, teaching, and professional leadership, and to be ready to assume a leadership role in VandyGRAF-affiliated activities.
