Excellence Fosters Opportunity

Nevada State College invites applications for an Assistant Professor of Mathematics to begin in Fall 2018. The preferred candidate will contribute to growing the recently-introduced mathematics degree program and collaborate with our students and faculty in some form of applied mathematics.

Nevada State College (NSC) is a four-year public college located on a 500-acre campus in the foothills of Henderson, Nevada (adjacent to Las Vegas). As a teaching-oriented institution, we focus on high-quality instruction, engaging learning experiences, and creative techniques to improve student learning. We seek a colleague who is passionate about teaching and wants to make a lasting impact developing our young institution.

At Nevada State College, we celebrate the storied backgrounds of our campus community. We operate with a shared commitment to represent and serve the diverse population of Nevada and to encourage the exchange of ideas that respects and honors the lived experiences of our students, staff, and faculty. We foster a culture of inclusive excellence so our members can live authentically, fully engage, and flourish. In order to strengthen the college and progress its mission, the college dedicates itself to intentional and ongoing reflection to meeting the evolving needs of NSC, the surrounding communities, and the State of Nevada. We are committed to building a culturally diverse faculty and strongly urge women and minorities to apply.

NSC faculty enjoy teaching in modern buildings with state-of-the-art classrooms and laboratories (which include Sympodium, lecture capture, and 3D technologies) and multiple 3D printers; we are interested in applications of these technologies to enhance student learning. Average class size across campus is 27 students; upper-division math courses are substantially smaller.

NSC serves approximately 3,800 students who are highly diverse and largely underserved—a majority of our students are nontraditional, first generation, or racial/ethnic minorities. For more information, watch this video about student life at NSC. Throughout your application materials, we encourage you to highlight your background in fostering an inclusive campus culture and supporting the success of students who are historically underrepresented in higher education.

  • Serving on departmental and college-wide committees.
  • Engaging in scholarly activity within the discipline or in the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning.

  • Highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience.
  • Excellent benefits, including 14.5% retirement match, 11 paid holidays, beginning balance of 30 sick leave days, family educational benefits, and three health insurance plans that can be supplemented with flexible spending accounts or health savings accounts.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Ph.D. in Mathematics or closely related field. Candidates who are ABD are eligible with the expectation that the Ph.D. will be completed by July 31, 2018.
