The University of California, Merced is a dynamic new university campus in Merced, California, which opened in September 2005 as the tenth campus of the University of California and the first American research university in the 21st century. The School of Natural Sciences at UC Merced (http://naturalsciences.ucmerced.edu) invites applications for one new faculty in the area of Applied Mathematics (http://appliedmath.ucmerced.edu) starting July 1, 2018 at the rank of tenure-track Assistant Professor. We are seeking exceptionally qualified candidates with expertise in statistics, probability, stochastic processes, scientific computing, data-enabled science, modelling, or related areas. Special attention will be paid to applicants who participate in interdisciplinary research, and who will contribute to developing the applied mathematics curriculum and to one or more of the campus research initiatives in the natural sciences, engineering and/or social sciences. A Ph.D. in Applied Mathematics or a related scientific field, demonstrated excellence in research, teaching, and strong interpersonal communication skills are required. Postdoctoral research and teaching experience are preferred. Candidates are requested to have four letters of recommendation, among which one must address teaching, submitted directly prior to the application deadline. Qualifications: The successful candidate will have a doctorate in Applied Math, Statistics or a closely related field by the position start date, a strong record of publication, and potential to obtain external research funding.
