The Department of Mathematics at Duke University in Durham, NC invites applications and nominations for a position of Professor of the Practice to begin July 1, 2018. This is regular rank, non-tenure-track positions with focus on teaching, curriculum development, and administration of academic functions in the department. A PhD in the mathematical sciences or in mathematics education is normally required. The appointment is term renewable and affords the possibility for promotion to Associate and Full Professor of the Practice if the initial appointment is at a lower rank. The initial appointment for an Assistant Professor of the Practice is for a four-year term, higher ranks may have longer initial appointments.

The duties of this position will include teaching introductory courses, coordinating instructors, training graduate student teachers, managing staff in calculus laboratories, and participating in the Department's ongoing curriculum revision and experimentation. A successful candidate will display or have the potential for excellence in all of these directions. Possibilities also exist for the development of novel undergraduate classes directed either at math majors or non-majors. The appointee will be expected to participate in committee service to the department, the university, and the profession.
