Heilbronn Institute London Fellow

The appointment is full time and will be on UCL Grade . The salary range will be UCL Grade 7 £34,635 - £41,864 per annum, KCL Grade 6 £36,441 - £42,915 per annum , inclusive of London Allowance.

Applications are invited for 2 Research Fellow positions, one each in the Departments of Mathematics University College London and King's College London to work in the area of number theory or algebraic/arithmetic geometry, both interpreted broadly. The positions are funded by the Heilbronn Institute for Mathematical Research. You will divide your time equally between your own research and the research programme of the Heilbronn Institute in London. For more information about the Heilbronn Institute, see heilbronn.ac.uk You will be expected to contribute significantly to the research environment of the relevant research group and the Department of Mathematics as demonstrated, for example, through a proven track record of successful research interaction. Due to the nature of the Heilbronn Institute's work, you must satisfy vetting before appointment. UK Resident UK nationals will normally be able to meet this condition: other potential applicants should consult the Heilbronn Chair (see below) about their eligibility before applying. You may become a member of the USS pension scheme. Research expenses of at least £2,000 per annum will also be available. There is a salary supplement of £3.5K per annum, in recognition of the distinctive nature of these Fellowships. The Fellowships will be for three years in the first instance, with a preferred start date in August 2018, though another date may be possible by agreement.

A PhD in Mathematics relevant to the study of number theory or algebraic/arithmetic geometry, both interpreted broadly, is essential. You will have proven research ability in mathematics, strong research potential and a track record of original research in number theory and/or algebraic/arithmetic geometry. An outstanding research record commensurate with your level of experience and the potential for strong leadership qualities in the subject are also required.
