Fellowship Description:

Bruce Reed, Louigi Addario-Berry and Luc Devroye intend to fund at least one two-year postdoctoral position, based at McGill University, for the 2018-2019 and 2019-2020 academic years. Researchers at the interface of probability and combinatorics are particularly invited to apply. Luc’s research interests include the probabilistic analysis of algorithms and data structures, nonparametric density estimation, and random number generation. Bruce is studying the combinatorics of complex networks. His interests include graph minors, graph colouring via the probabilistic method, Markov chains, random graphs, and embedding trees in graphs. Louigi works in discrete probability; his current research interests include: the asymptotic behaviour of random discrete structures, high-dimensional and “mean-field” models of percolation, random branching structures of all kinds, and smoothed analysis of algorithms, data structures and optimization problems.

The postdoc will also be able to interact with the very active probability (http://problab.ca/yul) and discrete mathematics groups (http://cs.mcgill.ca/~yyudit/dmo/) and their many students and postdocs.

The fellowship will be for $60,000 which may be reduced for holders of a second fellowship. The fellow will additionally receive up to $5,000.00 per year towards research-related travel and other research expenses. Postdoctoral fellows, depending on their residency status, pay no provincial income tax (precise rules should be verified with the appropriate government agencies). The cost of living in Montreal is low for a city of its size.

Applications should be submitted via MathJobs.org and should include 3 references. To ensure full consideration applications must be received by January 15th 2018. The following avenues for pursuing postdoctoral work with our group are also available, and we encourage eligible interested applicants to apply for them as well.
