Position Description:

Bennington College invites applicants for a two-year, full-time faculty position in mathematics beginning in Fall 2018. There is a possibility to extend the position to three years. The successful candidate will teach four courses each year.

Applicants in all areas of mathematics are encouraged to apply. Candidates should be able to teach courses ranging from the introductory to the advanced undergraduate level. This is an ideal opportunity for an early career mathematician interested in pursuing a career in liberal arts. Mentoring in teaching will be provided. While we do not expect research activity, the position is structured to allow for research to continue. A PhD in mathematics is strongly preferred.

Bennington College is a small residential liberal arts college in southern Vermont, long distinguished for its progressive approach to higher education. The College was founded in 1932 on the principle of active engagement in learning, which is manifest in individualized plans of study developed by students together with faculty. We aim to educate students towards self-fulfillment and constructive social purposes, and we believe that equity, diversity, and inclusivity--in community and in curriculum--are vital to achieving those aims.

Candidates should apply online to https://bennington.recruiterbox.com/jobs/fk0fpas by submitting: a) letter of application that describes teaching experience, professional work and includes a reflection on the candidate’s potential to contribute to a diverse and inclusive environment through teaching, research, and/or service; b) curriculum vitae; c) teaching statement which includes a short description of three proposed courses; and d) the names and contact information for three references or, if candidates prefer, three reference letters (at least one of which addresses the applicant’s teaching). The candidates should arrange for letters to be sent separately to bennington-bnnn0181@applications.recruiterbox.com.

In recognition of the employment challenges sometimes faced by academic couples in small communities, the College will also consider applications to share equally a single full-time faculty position. Applicants must each submit an individual application and indicate in their cover letters that they are applying jointly.

Priority will be given to applications received by January 15, 2018.
