Position Description:    

Texas Wesleyan University, founded in 1890 in Fort Worth, is a United Methodist institution with a tradition of integrating the liberal arts and sciences with professional and career preparation at the undergraduate level and in selected graduate areas. The University’s School of Natural and Social Sciences is currently seeking applicants for a tenure-track Assistante Professor of Mathematics position for Fall 2018.

Designs and delivers instruction in undergraduate mathematics courses offered by the School. Advises students and participates in all department, various school, and University-wide committees and activities.

Prepares lessons and delivers instruction for day, evening, and weekend courses for undergraduates. Courses (4 – per semester) will be all-levels of undergraduate mathematics including statistics and no developmental courses.

Adheres to the established class schedule and office hours. Submits book requests, syllabi, grades, evaluations, and other required paperwork and reports in a timely manner.

Remains knowledgeable of current research activities in the discipline by reading journal articles, attending conferences, and maintaining relationships with fellow mathematicians.

Participates in curriculum and program development and coordinates curriculum revision with other academic programs. Advises students at undergraduate level. Participates in departmental, school, and university meetings and academic activities.

Doctorate in Mathematics is required. Demonstrated potential for strong teaching and quality research is required.

Knowledge (position requirements at entry): Knowledge of: • Thorough understanding of mathematics curriculum and its application in various disciplines. • Familiarity with academic policies and procedures of higher education institutions. • Ability to comply with rules, standards, regulations and laws related to student records. • Ability to adhere to University and departmental policies and procedures. • Ability to be discreet in handling confidential matters, while complying with FERPA regulations. • Ability to comply with rules, standards, regulations and laws related to student records. • Evidence of excellence in and commitment to teaching general education math courses. • Ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community. • Ability to demonstrate and provide excellent service to both the University and the community. LANGUAGE SKILLS • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret academic periodicals, professional journals, and/or governmental regulations. • Ability to write research papers and mathematical material. • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from students and peers.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS • Ability to use college algebra, calculus, and other high-level mathematics as needed in teaching the theory of and applications in multiple disciplines.
