UC Berkeley Extension, the professional and continuing education division of the University of California, Berkeley, has been building bridges between UC Berkeley and the public since 1891. The Fall Program for Freshmen (FPF) is a small, supportive learning community for first-year students in the College of Letters and Science at UC Berkeley. We are frequently compared to a small liberal arts college within a larger research university. The program offers a fall semester curriculum of courses that students take through UC Berkeley Extension and that fulfill UC Berkeley graduation requirements. Responsibilities and Duties:

UC Berkeley Extension, the professional and continuing education division of the University of California, Berkeley, is accepting applications for part-time classroom instructor(s) within the Fall Program for Freshmen (FPF) for Fall 2017. UC Berkeley Extension's instructors form the foundation of UC Berkeley Extension's reputation as a leader in professional and continuing education. UC Berkeley Extension draws students who are highly motivated and self-actualizing, and we offer you this exciting opportunity to share your expertise within a learning community that is intellectually and professionally rewarding.

We are currently seeking part-time classroom instructors with expertise in the following areas:

Math 10A: Methods of Mathematics: Calculus, Statistics and Combinatorics - This course is intended for majors in the life sciences. Introduction to differential and integral calculus of functions of one variable. Representation of data, elementary probability theory, statistical models and testing.

Statistics 20: Introduction to Probability and Statistics - For students with mathematical background who wish to acquire basic concepts. Relative frequencies, discrete probability, random variables, expectation. Testing hypotheses. Estimation. Illustrations from various fields.

Math 32: Precalculus - This course is designed for students who wish to prepare for calculus. Polynomial and rational functions, exponential and logarithmic functions, trigonometry and trigonometric functions. Complex numbers, fundamental theorem of algebra, mathematical induction, binomial theorem, series, and sequences.

Math 1A: Calculus - An introduction to differential and integral calculus of functions of one variable, with applications and an introduction to transcendental functions.

Qualifications and Skills:
• A Ph.D. in Mathematics or Statistics from an accredited university (required).
• Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail (required).
• Experience teaching undergraduates as the primary instructor (preferred).
• Experience in course development, including creating course objectives and assignments/assessments (preferred).
• UC Berkeley affiliation or previous experience teaching for UC Berkeley (preferred).
